In 2017 Marisa Rappard started working on a series of drawings depicting a mesmerizing stream of hatchings. She treats the paper with coloured stains of acrylics and then covers this image with lines in black ink. By repeating lines she creates dense patches that collide, together forming an image meandering between figuration and abstraction.

The abundance of information is partly recognizable, yet distorted and elusive. The series was inspired by preoccupying news on ways to manipulate the news, and create false information, resulting in a sense of unreliabilty on all you read.

Initially acting on impulse and coincidence, Rappard carefully adjusts each drawing until it invites the beholder to enter and wander around in it endlessly.
