UPWARD

In 2025, Rozemarijn Westerink and Marisa Rappard collaborated for a second time on a work in public space. ‘Upward’ is a sound barrier along the train tracks in Amersfoort. As with the mural made in the same location, they incorporated elements from the surrounding neighbourhood such as specific birds and plants. Referring to the sensation an inhabitant described of first biking down, and then with great speed upwards through the tunnel, Rappard created a colourful set of lines making this movement towards the sky. Westerink drew the figurative elements, and together they made a dynamic composition intended to be joyful and uplifting.
