debris of history ablaze

The installation Debris of History Ablaze (2016), made at the Centraal Museum Utrecht, at a first glance appears to be an abstract spatial drawing. However, when taking a closer look many figurative elements can be discovered: a white-painted man crawling lo liberate himself from the debris pressing upon him, Philip Guston-like hooded figures carrying guns, red bricks, fire and smoke. These are mostly pictures derived from newspaper photos; some old, most of them recent.

Scrolling downwards the pictures will guide you through the work.
